Where To Comfort Yourself With Pasta in New York City

The first few months of the year can sometimes feel like the longest — sandwiched somewhere between the excited energy of the holiday season and a much-anticipated spring. When the days get too dark too quickly and the evening chill has settled, nothing sounds better than a deep bowl of chewy, saucy pasta and a glass of inky, gripping wine. Luckily, there is no shortage of the dish here in New York...

20 Excellent Astoria Restaurants and Bars to Try

Via Vai is an undersung destination for Italian food in a snug space with rustic furniture. It specializes in housemade pastas like gnocchi and orecchiette and Roman-style thin-crust pizzas that come out of a brick oven. Don’t skip the top-notch meatballs appetizer and tiramisu for dessert. Fourth-generation Astorian, chef-owner Antonio Morichini and his wife, Cynthia, grew up in the neighborhood, and after meeting and starting their family in Italy, returned home to share their riff on Italian cuisine locally...

VIA VAI Astoria Review: We Have The Best Restaurants in the Country

The last few weeks have been world-changing. Anxiety is a daily emotion. Social distancing is a new phrase we all take seriously. Talk of self quarantining and too many other catchphrases we all wish we never had trending. We can not ignore the adjustments in our lives now and perhaps the future. My commitment to assisting to support the restaurant industry in NYC so all I can do is write and eat. VIA VAI in Astoria extended a tasting through pick up, not sit down eating at this charming restaurant on 23rd Street...

Exclusive Interview: VIA VAI Executive Chef Owner Antonio Morichini

Growing up my favorite dishes were those that formed part of family events and occurrences. Sunday lunches were my favorite where the entire family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) got together and cooked together (the women of course in those days!). They would prepare incredible meals, gnocchi, lasagna and stewed meat sauce that accompanied my favorite meat dish called Veal Spezetto...

VIA VAI means coming and going, where you see and meet friends and others. Simple Ingredients, Big Flavor At VIA VAI in Astoria

Simplicity allows the taste of each ingredient to shine. VIA VAI serves Italian dishes with minimal ingredients in its refined, modern space. Welcome VIA VAI to 23rd Avenue This Summer

Over the weekend I had the pleasure to meet with the owners of VIA VAI, a new Italian restaurant opening up on 23rd Avenue in what used to be an old Bodega (except they had a big sign displayed for Budweiser and my household would call it the "Budega"). The space had been empty for a while, and we sure are glad to see VIA VAI move in there. They'll be bringing authentic and honest Italian food in a relaxed and sophisticated space. The owners, Antonio Morichini and his wife Cynthia, both have roots in Italy.
